The competition is open to everyone, inviting photographers of all skill levels to explore the unique inner-west suburb of Footscray. Founded in 2106 by Victoria University and Footscray University Town, this annual prize attracts attention and is a well-known staple of the Melbourne photography scene. Every year new photographs capture the suburb’s essence.

“I’ve always loved the history, colour and diversity of Footscray,” says Jesse Marlow, street photographer and Picturing Footscray judge. “Combined, these three aspects provide a stimulating backdrop for any photographer.”

This year’s theme is old and new in Footscray. This could be the urban development, the architecture of the past, a recognisable member of the community or any other way you may wish to interpret the prompt.

For the winners, there are four cash prizes. First place takes $3000, Second is $1000, Third $500 and the people’s choice award another $500. All entries are put on show in an exhibition held at Victoria University at MetroWest between May 18 and June 8.
