OSH10: One Hundred To The Ground

Osh10 (aka Aimee Chapman) is a local lass who, with her second album One Hundred To The Ground, brings a very ambitious array of electronic music to the table. The consideration with ambitious music however, is that all too often strong ideas are not always hit right or completely nailed down. Shrapnel opens proceedings with a consistent sonic backdrop to the cat-scratchy sassy vocals that sound like a facsimile of early Moloko; though I’m left feeling somewhat cheated by a big statement that just doesn’t seem to take off. Footsteps and Malmo provide a welcome reprieve. With fresh layers that mesh well and create an ambience that provides a great driver for the vocals, providing a definitive hint of what is capable. Some of the arrangements on show here are really quite beautiful, it just feels as though the vocals at times are stretched, and all too often seems to be at odds with the music itself, which for the most part does more than holds its own.
