New wave royalty New Order are returning to Australia

New Order

They’ll be playing two shows as part of the rare Down Under visit.

UK champions New Order have announced their glorious return to Australia, announcing shows in Melbourne and Sydney for March next year.

Formed by members of Joy Division in 1980 after the death of frontman Ian Curtis, New Order have long stood as one of music’s most innovative acts. Over the past four decades, the band has gifted us with seminal tracks such as ‘Blue Monday’, ‘True Faith’, ‘Plastic’ and ‘Bizarre Love’, further cementing themselves as a vital force in the music world.

Having last visited our shores in 2016 when they joined the Australian Chamber Orchestra in Sydney’s hallowed Opera House, New Order’s impending visit is set to be a momentous occasion. While in the country, they’ll play one show at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion and another at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl.

New Order’s live shows have been described as transformative and hypnotic, no doubt a result of the band’s use of immersive visuals and lighting displays. Past performances have seen the outfit joined by a 12-piece synth orchestra, a visionary collaboration which has since formed their recently released live album ∑(No,12k,Lg,17Mif) New Order + Liam Gillick: So it goes…

New Order have also revealed which acts are set to support them across both shows. Melbourne audiences will be treated to the pulsing beats of dance quartet Cut Copy, while both Sydney and Melbourne audiences will witness a warm-up set from electro-pop favourites Confidence Man.

Check out New Order’s tour dates:

Wednesday March 11 — Hordern Pavilion, Sydney NSW

Saturday March 14 — Sidney Myer Music Bowl, Melbourne VIC
