The legendary British outfit return with a new song.
Were you there when New Order came to Australia for their Sydney and Melbourne shows in early March? With COVID-19 taking hold soon after, the band haven’t taken to the stage since – the two shows stand as a lasting memory of live music in its most magnificent and grandiose form.
Six months after their triumphant shows Down Under, New Order have returned with their first new song since 2015’s Music Complete. ‘Be a Rebel’ comes at a time when people need it most. The track is typically joyous and effervescent, bearing bouncy keyboard lines and bubbly synthesisers.
“In tough times we wanted to reach out with a new song. We can’t play live for a while, but music is still something we can all together. We hope you enjoy it…until we meet again,” Bernard Sumner said of ‘Be a Rebel’.
Alongside the new track, New Order will be re-releasing their 1983 studio album, Power, Corruption and Lies, accompanied by individual releases of the four 12″ vinyl singles during 1983/84 that didn’t appear on the record.
Dropping on Friday October 2, the likes of ‘Blue Monday’ – the best-selling 12″ of all time – ‘Confusion’, ‘Thieves Like Us’ and ‘Murder’ will join the acclaimed ‘Age of Consent’, ‘Ecstasy’ and ‘Your Silent Face’ that already appear on the seminal eight-track LP.
