Mukka is bringing the dine-in experience to you during isolation

Words by Kate Streader

When it comes to good food, these guys don’t Mukka-bout.

Brunswick Street’s family-owned and run Indian eatery Mukka has long championed authentic, quality dishes which are made to be experienced, rather than just eaten.

Although they’ve been forced to move to a takeaway-only model in line with the current COVID-19 restrictions, the team behind Mukka are dedicated to adding some heart to your take-out.

“Indian food is made to share. However, during these times we are together in this by being apart,” says co-owner Prateek Dhawan. “So, we have made it easier to create the same feeling by our special ‘Isolation Thalis’.”

A spin on their popular thalis, the ‘Isolation Thalis’ is designed to be takeaway and delivery friendly while still allowing for the shared dining experience.

It comes with a choice of any two of Mukka’s curries, steamed basmati rice and a choice of tandoori roti, plain naan or garlic naan for just $19, or $19.50 if you go with the garlic naan. As always, there are plenty of options for vegetarians, vegans and meat-lovers alike.

Not only was it important for Mukka to continue offering delicious food and quality service during isolation, but they also wanted to take their favourite dishes and make them both accessible and affordable for the community during these tumultuous times.

To help with social distancing, you can order online, over the phone or at the Brunswick Street takeaway window, with most menu options available for takeaway – even their tandoor items. Unlike a lot of take-out offerings, all orders are made to order so you can expect fresh, flavoursome food every time.

“Our menu is made up of our childhood favourites and [each dish] has a sense of nostalgia associated with them,” says Dhawan. “All our recipes are family recipes, i.e. we don’t just do butter chicken, it’s got a Mukka kick to it.”

With the weather already bringing a wintery chill, Mukka’s menu has the perfect warming dishes to cozy up at home with. And not only will ordering takeaway save you from cooking, but you can feel good about supporting a local business during these difficult times.

Find Mukka at 365 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy, open 5pm-9:30pm from Monday – Friday and 12pm-9:30pm on weekends. Find the menu and place your online orders at mukka.com.au.ย
