MONA’s DarkLab announces massive Project X art program

Tassie is getting a little spookier.

The evil geniuses behind MONA, Dark Mofo and Mona Foma have unveiled their latest venture: the ominously named Project X.

Project X will be a public art program jam-packed with contemporary artworks, events and activations held over the next 12 months. Tassie’s Huon Valley region was selected as the program’s location in order to boost visitor numbers to the valley following bushfires in the region over the summer. $2 million of funding has been committed by the Federal and Tasmania State governments.

The first artwork will be Hrafn: Conversations with Odin, a massive sound installation produced by UK artist Chris Watson. Punters will be led through the forest of Hastings Save State Reserve before being overwhelmed by the sound of 2,000 ravens gathering to roost among the forest canopy. The first installation will open to the public from Wednesday June 12 before taking a break during Dark Mofo.
