Jam-packed with just under 200 events.

Melbourne’s very own Midsumma Festival has unveiled its massive 22-day program for 2020. Over the course of the festival, punters can expect works from more than 5,000 creators hosted in 98 venues across the city.

The festival’s major project for 2020, Queer Unsettled, is a provocative program that tackles colonisation through live music, moving image installation and other art forms. As part of Queer Unsettled, Midsumma has partnered with Melbourne Museum’s Nocturnal series to present Lunar Year Disco, a celebration of Chinese New Year featuring drag performers from Asia. What’s more, festivalgoers can expect live performances from vocal powerhouse Kira Puru, synth-pop icon Rainbow Chan and plenty more.

Next year’s one-day carnival will take over Alexandra Gardens on Sunday January 19 and is expected to pull at least 110,000 keen attendees. Of course, it’s not Midsumma without the annual pride march. This year, punters will be marching down the streets on Sunday February 2, one week before the festival is set to wrap up.

Midsumma Festival will run between Sunday January 19 and Sunday February 9 in Melbourne. For more info, head to the festival website.
