Midnight Oil reveal final 2019 show dates and tease new album

It'll be the band's first recordings since 2001.

Aussie rockers Midnight Oil have unveiled their final tour dates for 2019, in addition to teasing some possible plans for a brand new record.

The group will be hitting the rural towns of Thirroul in New South Wales and Birdsville in Queensland, as part of the Big Red Bash festival. In addition to the regional sets, the five-piece will also be heading to Canberra for Reconciliation Day on Monday May 27 for a show centred around reconciliation with First Nations peoples.

“Meaningful steps towards reconciliation are long overdue, including a whole of government response to the Uluru Declaration, so it will be good to be in Canberra on this important date to kick up a fuss and help get the issue back on track,” frontman Peter Garrett said in a statement.

The band hope to also start recording new music in 2020, which would be their first recordings since 2001. In a Facebook post, Midnight Oil say it’s unclear whether any new songs will be performed at their upcoming shows.

“At this stage it is not known whether a new song or two will be previewed at some point during their tour, but the band currently plans to head straight into the studio when they come off the road.”
