Andrew ‘Greedy’ Smith, founding member of Aussie group Mental As Anything, has passed away, aged 63.

Smith, currently on a national tour, passed away last night from a heart attack. He was the only original member of Mental As Anything still touring with the group and had songwriting credits on some of the band’s greatest hits including ‘Live It Up’. Mental As Anything were scheduled to tour Melbourne later this week.

As the ABC reports, Smith was inducted into the Australian Songwriters Association Hall of Fame a few weeks ago.

“He was a lovely bloke — one of the best you could find,” band manager Grant Bartlett told the ABC.

“He will be extremely missed.”

The band has also posted a tribute on Facebook.

“Our grief and confusion at this time are little compared to what Andrew’s family will be feeling – our hearts and prayers go out to them.”
