Seven unmissable gigs to check out at Melbourne Music Week 2020/21

As we emerge from the extended hibernation of COVID-19 – one that saw us bound to our homes for months in a row – the local music industry is in need of a juicy kickstart.

Enter Melbourne Music Week-Extended 2020/21. With local live music venues beginning to realise the return of live music, Melbourne Music Week-Extended stands as an venerable umbrella helping to reconceptualise ambitions of active bandrooms.

Commencing on Wednesday December 9, Melbourne Music Week-Extended will run across the entire Melbourne summer before it presents its last events on Sunday February 28. The larger, longer and more expansive program has been conceived to offer greater flexibility for local artists, venues and businesses to be involved.

Across the three-month jaunt, Melbourne Music Week-Extended will see a huge bill of local acts take to the stage. Everyone from Mick Harvey, Magic Dirt’s Adalita, Baker Boy, High Tension, Ara Koufax, CLAMM, Leah Senior, Close Counters, Cable Ties, among others, will take to the stage at live music venues all across Melbourne.

What’s even more remarkable is that we’ve only had the first taste of the Melbourne Music Week-Extended lineup – another wave of artists and gigs will be revealed in January.

To celebrate what is set to be a momentous and incredibly important occasion, we’ve spotlighted some of the festival’s most noteworthy gigs.

Let’s do this, Melbourne.
