Melbourne International Comedy Festival is giving away a bunch of special-access festival passports

Are you up for the Funny Tonne challenge?

Calling all comedy fanatics: the Melbourne International Comedy Festival is challenging a group of punters to see as many shows as they can by giving them a special comedy passport to the festival, as part of the Funny Tonne competition.

Since 2005, hardcore comedy fans have raced to make as many shows as possible within the festival dates. The current Funny Tonne record is held by Sarah Trevarthen who, in 2015, made it to 178 shows over the festival, or at least 59 shows a week.

This year, Funny Tonne has upped the ante by requiring contestants to write daily reviews about the shows they’ve attended, in addition to just rocking up. The Funny Tonne winner will be selected not only on the number of shows they’ve seen but also the depth and quality of their comedy reviews. Winners will also receive a $500 gift card to Chadstone shopping centre.

If you’re looking for an excuse to blow off some engagements, catch as many shows as you can and get some writing experience along the way, this could be the perfect opportunity.
