Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Nadia Phillips explores the dark side of love in her new film clip

The new release comes on the back of her recent EP, Sort It Out.

Originally hailing from Castlemaine before making the move to Melbourne to pursue music, 19-year-old singer-songwriter Nadia Phillips is making her mark on the local music scene.

Hitting the ground running with her debut single ‘On Reflection’ in late 2020 and following it up with the release of her EP Sort It Out last month, Phillips is back again with a film clip for her single, ‘Your Dark Side’.

Ruminating on love and betrayal, the single pits melancholic musings against crunching guitars and sorrowful drum pangs.

“I wrote this song to process the hurt and confusion felt when someone you love becomes unfamiliar and cold,” says Phillips of ‘Your Dark Side’.

As with her previous single, ‘Your Dark Side’ was predominately recorded and tracked by Phillips in her bedroom before workshopping it with drummer Ben Todd and sound engineer Simon Moro.

The film clip, directed by Melbourne-based filmmaker Henry Evans, feels like a short film in itself, bringing Phillips’ lyrics to life across six minutes of cinematic shots and aesthetically pleasing locations.

To celebrate the release of her new EP and ‘Your Dark Side’ film clip, Phillips has a handful of live shows in store over the coming weeks including shows at Bar Open on Thursday April 22, Last Chance Rock & Roll Bar on Friday April 30, The Retreat on Wednesday May 12 and The Workers Club on Tuesday May 18.
