The lineup for the virtual reality festival represents those successful for the new Music VR Backers Fund.

The recipients of the recently-announced Music VR Backers Fund have been announced. The first-of-its-kind $2,500 grant will offer Victorian artists the opportunity to reach audiences in a completely new and unique way – through live virtual reality technologies.

Those successful form the lineup of the inaugural virtual reality festival, Beyond Boundaries, with dates for this to be announced soon.

Of the 20 artists and bands successful in receiving the 2021 Music VR Backers Fund, the likes of Alon Ilsar, Close Counters, Crown Heights, Delorean Project, DRMNGNOW, Fascinator, FOOLS, Hachiku and Louise Terra have been recognised.

Also successful, and performing alongside the aforementioned artists for the coinciding Beyond Boundaries Festival, include NIASHA, Opal Ocean, Parvyn, RAT!hammock, Rubiks Collective, Rudely Interrupted, Speak Percussion, Tanzer, Taylah Carroll, Telenova and XANI.

With the music industry still recovering from the pandemic, and live music slowly returning to Australian venues, there has never been a more important time to be innovative. Venues are still running at limited capacities and many punters are still unable to attend live events. These new live VR technologies will bridge the gap, allowing arts and fans to reconnect through immersive at-home experiences.

The Music VR Backers Fund and Beyond Boundaries Festival is a collaborative project from Inverse, Music Victoria, the Victorian Music Development Office and Moon Mother Productions. The dates for Beyond Boundaries are still to come – sign up to the Inverse newsletter to be the first to know when the festival will be taking place.
