Mazzy Star co-founding member David Roback dies, aged 61

The producer and multi-instrumentalist also founded bands Rain Parade and Opal.

David Roback has died at the age of 61, as confirmed by an official representative. No cause of death was given.

A pivotal figure in the neo-psychedelic revival of the ’80s and ’90s, Roback is best known for his work as one half of indie duo Mazzy Star.

Forming in the late 1980s and comprising Roback and Hope Sandoval, Mazzy Star made their mark with their 1994 hit ‘Fade Into You’. The track has since appeared in countless films and TV shows, ranging from Gilmore Girls to American Horror Story: Hotel. 

Through their signature blend of psychedelic dream-pop and indie rock, the group has become synonymous with the ’90s alternative and indie music movement.
