Iconic Melbourne theatre to host new outdoor live music series feat. Mildlife, RVG, Kaiit and more

Words by Tom Parker

Live music is coming to the Malthouse Theatre courtyard.

Across ten days in January, the Malthouse Theatre will play host to a new outdoor gig series set to welcome the likes of Mildlife, RVG, Kaiit, Gordon Koang, Emma Donovan & The Putbacks, HTRK and more to the stage.

Taking place in the courtyard of the iconic Melbourne theatre, the COVID-safe venue will present two performances a night across ten nights, from some of Melbourne’s most exciting local artists. Kicking off with Kaiit on Thursday January 21, the series will then proceed the next day and across the weekend, before HTRK round out the first run of shows on Monday January 25.

After a day off, the gigs will continue on Wednesday January 27 and every night until Sunday January 31. Curated by the legends at Penny Drop, the lineup was always going to be a doozy – the likes of Sweet Whirl, Sarah Mary Chadwick, Good Morning and Surprise Chef join the aforementioned names on the bill.

To accompany the music program, punters can also expect some stand-up comedy through Token, talks led by The Wheeler Centre and The Saturday Paper, while there will also be workshops going down courtesy of Chunky Move and Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA).
