Kurt Vile has released a mini-doco capturing the creative process behind ‘Bottle It In’

At just 20 minutes long, (bottle back) is a short and sweet glimpse at how last year’s Bottle It In came together.

In the lead up to dropping his acclaimed album Bottle It In last year, Vile retreated to New York’s Catskill Mountains in preparation for the release and the subsequent year of press and touring. Occupying a 20-bedroom Victorian Estate for the weekend, Vile soaked in the solitude he knew would be short-lived – capturing the entire experience on film.

One year on, Matador Records have released the footage from that weekend in the form of (bottle back): a short film capturing Vile’s creative process through performances of tracks from the album and candid interviews.

Featuring a raw, acoustic rendition of ‘Bassackwards’, a performance of ‘Check Baby’ with his band The Violators and a special rendering of 2011’s ‘Baby’s Arms’ with the help of Canadian outfit The Sadies, (bottle back) is an intimate glimpse into the mind of one of music’s great recluses.
