The legendary filmmaker and composer has confirmed his involvement in a remake of his 1982 film.
The master of horror, John Carpenter, has teased his involvement in a proposed remake of his 1982 cult classic film, The Thing.
He let the news slip during an interview as part of Fantasia Film Festival at which he received a Lifetime Achievement Award.
The remake was announced in January by Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions, the latter of which has brought several horror favourites to our screens over the years including the likes of Paranormal Activity, Get Out and Halloween.
Carpenter previously worked with Blumhouse Productions on the first three Halloween films and will return as composer for the production company’s forthcoming instalment of the long-running franchise, Halloween Kills, which is due for release late next year.
He was tight-lipped about whether the reboot of The Thing will be a prequel or sequel of the 1982 film, though it was previously revealed that the remake will draw from lost pages of the John W. Campbell novel Who Goes There? on which the original film is based.
It won’t be the first attempt at a reboot, following a prequel of the same name released in 2011. Directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr with no involvement from Carpenter, the most recent version of The Thing was poorly received by critics and fans alike.
While Carpenter gave little indication as to when we can expect the film, he did hint that the project is still “down the road”.
