Discussing the way in which jazz evolved as a tool to demonstrate and demand racial equality in the United States, band leader Jackie Bornstein believes jazz can still be used as a tool for addressing social justice issues such as inequality and the abuse of asylum seekers.

The concert program draws on songs recorded by artists including Louis Armstrong, Nina Simone and Billie Holiday, demonstrating the range of social justice issues addressed by jazz artists from the 1930’s to the modern day.
