Are you regulated or licensed in any way?

We are licensed under our local council for skin penetration. For this we adhere to the hygiene requirements, not only with sterilizing and cleanliness, but also knowledge of hazardous waste disposal and disinfection on work areas.

What happens during the tattoo consultation?

The consultation process for having a tattoo done is a vital part of the process. Consultations give both the artist and client clarification of where the design will be going and the options that can be developed. In many cases a client may end up with a very different piece to what they had in mind after hearing what the artist can bring to the table. A simple concept can develop and evolve in all sorts of ways.

Why do I have to leave a deposit?

Leaving a tattoo deposit ensures that your date and time booked will be locked in for both the client and artist.

What happens if I don’t show up for my tattoo appointment?

If an appointment is cancelled or not met within 24 hours of your booking, your deposit will be lost.

Some people want tattoos in very intimate places. How do you go about it professionally?

We will screen off areas and ensure the comfort and privacy of not only the artist and client but other staff and clients in the studio.

Do you sell gift certificates?

We have gift certificates in-store and online, with set amounts of $50, $100 and also an open amount when someone is feeling generous with gift giving.

Do you accept walk-ins?

Absolutely, however it’s always best to call ahead to make sure that we have time available and don’t disappoint.

What’s the story behind the shop’s name?

We are located on the north end of Lygon Street at 526. Lucky for us there is another building numbered 526 in Carlton. With the name East Brunswick Tattoos we figured it would lead people to the correct location. Sometimes it works.

Would you say the studio has a particular style it adheres to?

Within our team we cover many different styles covering realism, black and grey, oriental, lettering, bold, bright, full colour, it goes on. If you’ve got an idea we’ll be directing you to the artist that is best suited for what you are after.

If tattooing was made illegal tomorrow what would you do for a living?

Tattooing.

Have you noticed a shift in the trend of tattoo customers?

Over the last few decades it’s no secret tattoos have become much more socially acceptable. We have the pleasure of tattooing and getting to work with clients from all walks of life, whether it’s a corporate career background, to a retired couple creating more memories.

Do you all argue over the music in the studio?

A majority of the time there is a safe bet of iTunes being on random dishing out an array of styles of music. However if you have been in before, chances are that you’ve heard Type O Negative or Q Lazzurus.

What is different about tattooing in Melbourne?

An array of talent throughout the state scattered amongst open shop and private studios creates a very healthy competition within the tattoo community.

Can I touch your tattoos?

Please refrain.

My mate tattoos from home. He’s real good though. Why shouldn’t I just get him to do my tattoo for real cheap?

Good tattoos aren’t cheap and cheap tattoos aren’t good.

Do you create art outside of tattooing?

Our artists are super talented artistically aside from tattooing and most have a background in visual arts. Art is the talent, tattooing is the medium. Both Brittany and Spuds’ work can be found on local/international bands merch and products.
