High Tension are set to tear up Max Watt’s with a raucous live show

Words by Kate Streader

It’s going down in February as part of Melbourne Music Week’s Extended program.

After a tense and tumultuous year, we all need to blow off some steam and what better way to do it than blasting our eardrums with a thunderous, intense set showcasing local metal legends.

Melbourne’s High Tension are tearing into Max Watt’s with a live show on Saturday February 6 with support from two of the local scene’s most daring musicians, Rama Parwata and Marco Fusinato, who will come together for the first time as Indent.

Since forming in 2012, Melbourne metallers High Tension have gone from strength to strength. Their debut album Death Beat garnered an ARIA nomination for Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album while its 2015 follow-up Bully further cemented the band’s reputation as an outfit destined for big things, receiving widespread acclaim from critics and fans alike.

A few years later, the beast grew as High Tension welcomed drummer Lauren Hammel and guitarist/backing vocalist Mike Deslandes to the fold, forming their current lineup alongside co-founding members Karina Utomo (vocals) and Matt Weston (bass).

The presence of its new members saw the band settle into a new sound which was introduced in the form of their 2018 record, Purge. Their most intense record yet, Purge represents the blistering energy and fierce sound that High Tension are known and loved for.

Expect towering walls of noise and an unrivalled, electric atmosphere when High Tension and Indent hit Max Watt’s for Melbourne Music Week Extended early next year.
