‘Aries’ marks the third instalment in the group’s Song Machine series.
Gorillaz have returned with a new single as part of their music and cartoon series Song Machine. The latest instalment of the series, titled ‘Aries’, sees Gorillaz collaborating with legendary British multi-instrumentalist, producer and co-founder of Joy Division and New Order, Peter Hook.
Also featuring UK singer and producer Georgia, ‘Aries’ reflects on the fiery nature of the zodiac sign it takes its name from. “Highly impatient and competitive, many Aries have the fighting spirit of your mythological ruler,” said Gorillaz guitarist Noodle.
Marking the third instalment of Song Machine, Gorillaz’s latest collaboration comes on the back of joint ventures with Fatoumata Diawara for ‘Désolé’, and Slowthai and Slaves for ‘Momentary Bliss’.
“Song Machine is a whole new way of doing what we do. Gorillaz breaking the mould ‘cos the mould got old. World is moving faster than a supercharged particle, so we’ve gotta stay ready to drop. We don’t even know who’s stepping through the studio next,” said Gorillaz drummer Russel of the project.
“Song Machine feeds on the unknown, runs on pure chaos. So whatever the hell’s coming, we’re primed and ready to produce like there’s no tomorrow. Y’know, just in case,” he added.
