Jazz Melbourne, a new arts organisation in Melbourne, VIC is debuting their professional ensemble, the Jazz Melbourne Orchestra, at Chapel off Chapel in late February 2020. The concert will feature a 16 piece big band made up of top Australian jazz musicians alongside featured artist Mat Jodrell.
The orchestra will perform two sets of music paying tribute to the great trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie, with the second set featuring the Gillespiana album performed in full.
Of the recent performance announcement, Jazz Melbourne’s Co-Founder Toshi Clinch said, “This is an exciting time for jazz in Melbourne, especially for large ensemble music. The city is seeing an increase in big band performances at all levels as well as a growing audience interested in this style of music. This city has some of the best musicians in the world and I believe that this is the perfect time to debut the Jazz Melbourne Orchestra.”
