Funkfest has been cancelled

It’s been a difficult season for festivals.

Set to go down next weekend in Victoria’s Alpine Region, the inaugural Funkfest has been cancelled.

The announcement came after festival organisers exhausted every avenue in order to keep from pulling the plug on the event. A statement issued by Funkfest cited ongoing safety concerns about the region and subsequent poor ticket sales as major factors in the decision call off the festival.

“It is with a heavy heart and resounding regret that we are unfortunately going to have to pull the plug on Funkfest 2020,” the statement reads. “The bushfires and evacuation of the region for almost four weeks came at a critical time for tickets sales, it being six weeks out from the festival.”

The announcement does come with a silver lining, however, with the festival organisers already looking towards next year’s event.

“We will have a short break to gather ourselves and then we will start planning for Funkfest 2021,” they said. “We will be back and better than ever. Our groove will rise again.”
