Bench Press at Northcote Social Club

Melbourne post-punk outfit Bench Press are celebrating the launch of their new EP, Not The Past, Can’t Be The Future, at Northcote Social Club on Friday August 9. They’ll be joined by a huge support lineup of Batpiss, Porpoise Spit and Pinch Points. More info here.

Live Irish music at The Quiet Man Irish Pub 

Every Friday and Saturday, The Quiet Man Irish Pub hosts a night of live music and performance by young Irish musicians. The Flemington Pub is renowned in Melbourne for its genuine Irish ambience and food, while its live performances showcase the best in contemporary Irish music. The performances kick off at 9.30pm. Dope Lemon at the Palais Theatre

Smooth cat Dope Lemon (aka Angus Stone) is bringing his latest album to the Palais Theatre on Friday August 9. Dope Lemon’s sophomore record was released back in July and was described by yours truly as a “dreamy roadtrip for the ears”. More info here.

Hot August Nights at the Temperance Hotel

South Yarra’s Temperance Hotel is bringing the heat back to Melbourne this winter with the return of its annual Hot August Nights series. This Saturday August 10 will see DJs Ivan Gough and Marcus Knight hit the decks. More info here.

STAV at Mark Street Hall

Multicultural music organisation The Boite is presenting singer-songwriter STAV at Mark Street Hall on Saturday August 10. Featuring a full band of double bass, guitar and drums, STAV blurs the boundaries between singing and spoken word with her music. More info here.
