Last night, Victorian Premier Dan Andrews held a late night press conference after a hotel quarantine worker tested positive for COVID-19. The new case has prompted the state government to reinstate some restrictions in Melbourne.

Andrews has reinstated the New Year’s Eve restrictions for Melbourne, meaning that as of today, face masks must be worn indoors and household gatherings will be limited to 15 people.
The scheduled easing of workplace restrictions which was due to come into effect on Monday February 8, allowing 75 per cent of staff members to return to the office, has also been postponed until further notice.
The government has published a list of exposure sites that the positive case visited between Saturday January 30 and Monday February 1 and is urging anyone who visited those places on those dates to get tested immediately and isolate for 14 days.
It is currently unknown whether or not the hotel quarantine worker has contracted the highly infectious UK strain of the virus though Andrews said authorities are “assuming the worst”.
Genomic testing will reveal whether or not it is the UK strain within the next few days.
