English DJ and producer Andrew Weatherall dies, aged 56

The news has shaken the electronic music community.

British DJ and producer Andrew Weatherall has died at the age of 56. The musician passed in the early hours of the morning on Monday February 17.

According to a statement, “The cause of death was a pulmonary embolism. He was being treated in hospital but unfortunately the blood clot reached his heart. His death was swift and peaceful.”

Cutting his teeth as a DJ in the acid house scene in the ’80s, Weatherall became a pioneer within the realms of electronic music and beyond over the course of his career.

Collaborating with the likes of New Order and Happy Mondays, Weatherall made a name for himself as a DJ before furthering his acclaim for his work producing Primal Scream’s seminal album Screamadelica. 

News of his passing has been met with an influx of tributes from peers, collaborators and fans.
