“Emilee South and William Lee, of ‘Elk & Whale’.”
And what do you do in the band?
“We both play guitar and sing, as well as some banjo and piano accordion.”
Who else have you and your band closely worked with?
“Al Parkinson, The Stirling Collective, Brooke Taylor.”
When did you form the band or did it just stumble upon you?
“We’ve been friends for a long time, and playing music together for a little while. We started doing it a bit more seriously – writing and playing gigs together – about six months ago.”
What was the driving force behind the idea?
“I think it all started when we wanted to do some busking. Although we never got our acts together with the busking permits, we did start writing some songs!”
Where has the name come from?
“Just an idea based on the first letters of each of our names.”
Do you think that you have achieved what you set out to do?
“Well, we’re definitely playing music – which is what we wanted from the start. But, there’s still a lot we’d like to do with it, and a long way to go.”
If you wer en’t playing music, you would be…
“Pretty damn unhappy!”
What makes you happiest about what you’re doing?
“Just the pure joy of creating and playing music together, and sharing it with some very lovely people.”
How do you all find time to work with so many musicians?
“Well, you just make time. And, when it’s this fun it feels completely effortless.”
When are you doing your thing next?
“Our next gig is at Melting Pot’s, Songwriters In The Round at Vibe On Smith St with Al Parkinson and Simon Phillips! This Friday January 28 at 9pm.”
