The US cabaret icon brings her show, 20 Fabulous Years of Tammie Brown, to Melbourne this weekend.

What does your show say about society today?

My show is a social commentary. Facts are facts and the facts are louder than fiction. There are no disclaimers in life.

What do you want the audience to take away from your show?

My objective is for the audience to go home feeling good, entertained, and knowing that laughter can cure anything.

Where do you plan to take your show after Midsumma?

This whole summer I will be performing in Provincetown, Massachusetts. I also plan to take it to many places in the United States and hopefully the UK.

When was the moment you realised you could be a performer?

I started realising I could perform when I became inspired by the Tina Turner movie, What’s Love Got to Do with It.

Who should absolutely not come to your show?

People with closed minds. My shows are for smart people.

What motivated to you get involved in Midsumma in the first place?

I’m just thrilled to be part of Midsumma Festival and to be coming back to Australia. I received so much love from the Australian audiences and can really feel the connection we have.

Tell us five great shows to see at Midsumma.

Well, I’ve never been to Midsumma, so I’m not sure what too expect, but l am very much looking forward to seeing the other artists involved. I’d also like to give a shout out to my friend Karen From Finance.

20 Fabulous Years of Tammie Brown comes to The Melba Spiegeltent for three sessions, 6pm and 8:30pm on Sunday February 2 and 8:30pm on Monday February 3. Grab your tix here
