Days Like This festival crowdfunds fees for lawsuit against NSW government

BySaskia Morrison

New South Wales is cracking down on musical festivals and organisers are over it.

Days Like This, Novel, Lost Paradise and Finely Tuned have launched a GoFundMe page to help fund their mounting legal battle with the New South Wales government. The page reached over 1,500 shares since going live and currently sits at over $8,000 at the time of publication.

Days Like This festival took place on Saturday March 9. According to a statement from the festival, there were “no major incidents reported throughout the event”. At the event, there were 60 punters for every policeman, compared to Victoria and Queensland’s estimated ratio of one policeman to every 1000 punters.

The lawsuit comes after 14 music festivals were listed as ‘high risk’ by the NSW government, who has now imposed additional requirements on these festivals. Days Like This organisers claim the high risk status has affected the longevity of the festival, with ticket sales declining by 50 per cent compared to last year.

“As a team, we have worked tirelessly and will not tolerate the NSW government destroying an industry we all love so much. The damage that has been done to our brands, reputations and the industry is irreversible,” said Days Like This organiser Jason Ayoubi.

“There is a real threat that many of these festivals will no longer operate,”
