David Attenborough needs a DJ to remix one of his recordings

Calling all bedroom producers.

Hey, you. The one still DJing in your mum’s basement. You might finally be able to get your big break.

Sir David Attenborough, the king of the TV jungle, is looking for a DJ to remix a 70-year-old field recording into an Ibiza-club jam. Attenborough made the recording while searching for a Komodo Dragon in Bali.

The funky three-minute recording is called ‘Gender Wayang’, created by indigenous villagers in Indonesia. Recorded on a tape recorder back in the ’50s, Attenborough taped the music while filming his 1954 series Zoo Quest.

“The villagers play this concerted music with extraordinary precision and real zest,” he said to the BBC.

The competition is running in conjunction with Songlines Magazine and new music funding body, the PRS Foundation. The contest will be judged by Attenborough himself, as well as a panel including Mercury Prize nominee Ghostpoet and BBC 6 Music presenter Cerys Matthews. This dream team will then choose six entries to be voted on by the public, where one winner will be crowned alpha of the pack.

The only condition for entering is that it has to be a ‘roaring’ hit.
