Country music legend John Prine has been hospitalised with coronavirus symptoms

His family have described his condition as ‘critical’.

American country and folk singer-songwriter John Prine has been hospitalised due to symptoms of COVID-19. The news was announced by Prine’s family on Twitter this morning.

“After a sudden onset of COVID-19 symptoms, John was hospitalised on Thursday (3/26). He was intubated Saturday evening, and continues to receive care, but his situation is critical,” said his family in a statement.

“This is hard news for us to share. But so many of you have loved and supported John over the years, we wanted to let you know, and give you the chance to send on more of that love and support now,” they said.

The 73-year-old musician has battled cancer twice during his lifetime and had part of his lung removed after being diagnosed with lung cancer in 2013. Prine was due to travel to Australia for this year’s now-cancelled Bluesfest, though he pulled out of the festival in February due to an existing injury.
