A politically-charged performance.

Following its enormous success in Sydney, Arts Centre Melbourne is bringing the sold-out music theatre event Since Ali Died to Melbourne.

The one-man show, performed by rapper and poet Omar Musa, is inspired by the death of boxing icon Muhammad Ali, his personal hero. Musa reflects on Ali’s passing and ties stories from his own life to the boxer’s legacy. Since Ali Died touches on themes of suburban violence, lost love, cultural heritage and growing up as a Muslim in Australia using captivating storytelling, rap and song.

The show recently won the Sydney Theatre Award for Best Cabaret and comes to Melbourne as part of the Art Centre’s Big World, Up Close series. The productions included in Big World, Up Close highlight a diverse range of voices in the contemporary performance space.

Since Ali Died is running at Arts Centre Melbourne’s Fairfax Studio between Tuesday August 13 and Saturday August 17. Tickets are available via the venue website.
