15 days of music, food, street parties and masquerade across 18 venues.
It’s been a long time coming, but Brunswick Music Festival has finally unveiled what’s in store for their 2019 program, kicking off in March.
We got a taste of the festival lineup back in November, when Baltimore teen Snail Mail was announced as the first act in its 2019 lineup. Dinosaur Jr. frontman J Mascis was added to the list not too long after, as part of his national tour. Since then, it’s been pretty hush-hush.
Joining Snail Mail include local legends Cash Savage and the Last Drinks, The Murlocs, Stella Donnelly, Cosmic Psychos and more. In an unusual musical pairing, punk-rock four-piece HEXDEBT will team up with a chamber orchestra for some cross-genre pollination.
The 15-day extravaganza will spread across some much-loved Brunny venues, including Howler and Brunswick Baths. In previous years, Brunswick Music Festival’s lineup has taken a world/folksy vibe, sharing acts with other festivals like Port Fairy Folk Festival and WOMADelaide. This year, the festival has taken a new approach to programming by looking at what’s hot in Melbourne right now and making sure it’s on the bill.
The fan-favourite Sydney Road Street Party is set to return with a smorgasbord of food, drinks and live performances. For the first time ever, a masquerade ball will be making its way to 3056, with music from Jazz Party, FERLA and The Mamas. It’s gonna be a big one.
