Beats by Beat: Casey Leaver delivers a dark discotheque masterpiece

Words by Sam Howard

Welcome to Beats by Beat, our new mix series for electronic music lovers. Head here if you missed the previous Beats by Beat mix, produced by DJ collective, Primer.

Casey Leaver is somewhat like the Megan Markle of Melbourne’s southside dance music scene. Except she is much more loyal than Marks and, now, far more royal. Plus, she has much better taste in music.

Leaver is the leading lady behind the memorable weekly party, Disco Volante, and can be found front and centre of the throne throwing disco, techno, house and other diverse, energetic sounds which have hundreds of people in euphoric ecstasy every weekend.

Whether she’s playing at Melbourne’s biggest queer party, Poof Doof, the quirky Pawn & Co or in the cage at Revolver, she always has a devoted dancefloor following and when you hear to her set, you can tell why.

Her obsession with dance music started when she was just five years old, when she’d perform dance numbers to ’80s tracks like KC & The Sunshine Band’s ‘Give It Up’. She’s now performed for huge international acts including Seth Troxler, Doorly and even Boy George, and is a part of John Course, John Curtin and Piero Giovannini’s Requests Artists platform. So, it comes as no surprise that her music career is now flying, with an official announcement this week that Leaver will now be signed to one of Australia’s biggest and best labels, Thick As Thieves.

To celebrate this announcement, Leaver has put together an exclusive and epic set of imperial variety for Beat Magazine. Give it some love and a share!
