Avi Misra ‘Nostalgia’ Album Launch

Alternative Singer-Songwriter/Composer-Producer Avi Misra launches his fifth album ‘Nostalgia’ at The Toff in Town in Melbourne, CBD on the 2nd Of March 2023.

Best known for his signature baritone and transcendentalist poetry, Misra seamlessly blends classic rock sensibilities with electronica experimentations and Hindustani textures to make a sound that’s his own. His songs are vivid, thought provoking and soulful. His production ethos is refreshingly organic with synths, guitars and finger drumming recorded live on record and vocals never autotuned.

Born out of deeply personal though universally relatable lockdown reflections of the Tokyo born, Delhi raised, Melbourne based songwriter – ‘Nostalgia’ presents a 21’st century take on classic synth rock animated by the sonic flavours of legendary synthesizers like the Moog System 55, Yamaha CS 80, and Hammond Novachord that Misra got to record courtesy a recently concluded scholarship at The Melbourne Electric Sound Studio.

He will be joined by fellow M.E.S.S. advanced artist development course alumni Singer-Songwriter Camilla Rose Sullivan and Live Electronic Musicians of Melbourne (L.E.M.O.M.) director Simon Quinn’s synth wave duo ‘ The Safety Word’.

The Safety Word are an electronic duo from Melbourne Australia their works inspired by dream pop, chill wave and trip-hop sensibilities. The band consists of core song writing team John Rousvanis on (vocals/electric guitar) and Simon Quinn (laptop/keys). Their sound can be described as down tempo electronica with a twist of trip-hop and future R & B. Thrown into the blender are soulful vocals, abstract guitar, deep bass and ambient synth soundscapes.
Camilla Rose Sullivan is a songwriter from the Dandenong Ranges who combines alt-country and folk stylings with a dark 90’s edge. Inspired by songwriters such as Liz Stringer, Tori Amos and Courtney Marie Andrews her music weaves together interpersonal and reflective storytelling with her love of evocative regional landscapes. Her songs often feature a quiet yet confident build in intensity that acts as a point of catharsis for moments of intimacy, loneliness and hope.
