Chinese New Year Melbourne Festival reveals 2019 program

The details of Melbourne’s Chinese New Year festival have been revealed, celebrating a stunning range of Chinese food, music, dancing and dragon boat racing. Spanning across 16 days and a handful of venues across the CBD, the festival will be bidding adieu to the year of the dog and welcoming the year of the pig.

Chinese New Year’s Eve will play host to an impressive lineup of stage performances, including a lion dance, costume parades and kung-fu demonstrations. If you’re feeling peckish, Cultural Kaleidoscope on Sunday February 3 will be a hub for Chinese food and cooking demonstrations.

Melbourne Museum will be filled with activities for festivalgoers, young and old, such as lantern-making classes and tutorials on calligraphy. On the final evening, a lantern parade and glowing lions will wrap up the closing ceremony and bring good luck for the year ahead.
