The cult-classic tale of Patrick Bateman comes to the stage.

On the back of a sold-out Australian premiere in Sydney last year, the award-winning American Psycho – The Musical will make its way to Melbourne in May.

Based on Bret Easton Ellis’ best-selling novel American Psycho and the cult-classic film adaptation of the same name, the musical follows sociopath Patrick Bateman into the depths of murder, sex and depravity.

A dark comedy drenched in satire, the production takes aim at a society driven by capitalism, narcissism and excess.

With the book by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the playwright, screenwriter and comic book writer behind Glee, Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, the musical garnered massive acclaim across its London and Broadway runs.

With music and lyrics by Tony Award-winner Duncan Sheik and featuring hits by the likes of Phil Collins, Tears for Fears, New Order and Huey Lewis and the News, expect to be transported to Bateman’s ’80s Wall Street world when American Psycho – The Musical comes to Melbourne.

American Psycho – The Musical comes to Arts Centre Melbourne from May 21 – May 31. Tickets are on sale from 10am Wednesday February 26
