From classic films to hidden gems, the inaugural BFAF program has it all.
A new annual event celebrating Australia’s rich cinematic history will make its way to Bendigo later this month, bringing four days of films from a range of genres and eras to the big screen.
Across the past few years, Bendigo has hosted a pop-up cinema within the Capital Theatre complex each March, though this year sees the annual event taking on a new area of focus. Narrowing its scope to Australian films, the first Bendigo Festival of Australian Film will open with 1990 comedy thriller Death in Brunswick, introduced by the film’s director John Ruane.
Encompassing well-known titles like 2009’s Bran Nue Dae and the 1979 classsic My Brilliant Career, alongside hidden gems Children of the Revolution (1996) and Blessed (2009), the program will highlight the breadth of our country’s cinematic history.
Featuring eight films in total, screenings of Angel Baby, Judy & Punch, and The Dressmaker round out the inaugural BFAF offering.
