The book will be released next year.

Hunger Games trilogy author Suzanne Collins will be penning a prequel to the widely-acclaimed series, according to a statement by global publishing house Scholastic.

The book will be taking fans back to the reaping of the tenth Hunger Games — 64 years before Katniss Everdeen was in the picture. Collins said she wanted to tackle the “state of nature”, and themes of humanity and survival.

Since the announcement of Untitled Panem Novel, Lionsgate has piped up, saying they’re working with Collins to potentially adapt the book into a film.

“As the proud home of the Hunger Games movies, we can hardly wait for Suzanne’s next book to be published. We’ve been communicating with her during the writing process and we look forward to continuing to work closely with her on the movie,” said Lionsgate’s chairman Joe Drake in a statement.

The novel will be coming to Australian bookstores on May 19, 2020.
