60 Seconds With… Jen Knight & The Cavaliers

Bearing the terrible cliched nature of this question, what do you reckon people will say you sound like?

I have heard a mix of things from the band George to Portishead and Red Hot Chilli peppers, ultimately we mix a lot of different genres and just sound like us.

What do you love about making music?
Absolutely everything! The people you meet, the places you go and the satisfaction you get from creating something that never existed before.

When’s the gig and with who?
9th September with April Maze and Winter York at The Toff In Town.

Do you have any record releases to date? What are they? Where can I get them?

We are launching our Debut EP ‘HUNGER’ on the 9th at The Toff. You can get it from bandcamp, or live shows.

Tell us about the last song you wrote.

It is quite different from our previous material, has a kind of country feel and very blunt lyrics inspired by the classic unrequited love story.

When, and why did you start writing music?
Without really knowing what I was doing I started writing lyrics and melodies as early as 7 years old but only started to take it seriously in my late teens.

Where would you like to be in five years?
On tour.

What advice would you give to bands that are new on the Melbourne music scene?
Play as much as you can! Network with other local bands and utilise the social media to market.
