60 Seconds With… Caitlin Park

So then, what’s the band name and what do you ‘do’ in the band?

The Band is called Caitlin Park – I’m CP, I write the songs, arrange and compile the samples and play guitar and sing on stage.

What do you reckon people will say you sound like?

Audiobooks and found sound folk, like The Books, but maybe a bit more song-writer-y

What do you love about making music?

I love being immersed in it, I love the feeling of writing a guitar part and cutting and pasting samples and vocals on top and it all fitting just how you hoped it would.

What do you hate about the music industry?

Artists need more support, not pressure – get your shiz together

If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be and why?

Steve Reich – He is still alive, so it could still happen, but I would have loved to show him my stuff when he had just begun his career. He was a giant in minimalism, and his work, in terms of creating a musical backbone, is a huge inspiration to me.

If you could assassinate one person or band from popular music, who would it and why?

Ooh totes harsh.. Michael Buble has to go, not a fan of the boob

What can a punter expect from your live show?

A lot of sampled spoken word, sound effects, acoustic looped guitars and deep voices

What’ve you got to sell CD-wise?

I have a single ‘Warriors With Wild Hearts’ and my debut Album, recently released called ‘Milk Annual’

When’s the gig and with who?

The Toff in Town on Thursday the 29th [Album Launch yo!] with FOX & SUI and Tin Sparrow (syd)

Anything else to add?

Have you heard Fox & Sui from Melbourne. Probably. They are amazing. As I said, they’re playing at the Toff show too. Come down and watch!
