170 Russell temporarily relocates shows following fire

Partygoers evacuated the venue on Saturday night.

Staff at Melbourne’s 170 Russell have relocated shows to Max Watt’s following a small fire that started on the premises last weekend.

It won’t be too much of a hassle though, with US rapper Pouya the only act scheduled to perform between now and the expected reopen date of Friday September 6.

Hundreds of punters were forced to evacuate 170 Russell late on Saturday August 31, during the most recent Billboard nightclub evening. In a Facebook post, venue management said “the fire started in, and was contained to, an industrial extraction fan unit located in the roof behind the stage”.

“A big thank you for everyone’s concern and well wishes following a fire at the venue on Saturday night. Patron safety is always our first and foremost priority and we are thankful that no one was injured.”
