Temperance Hotel

The Temperance may have its history rooted in pub culture, but it's aimed at a decidedly more boutique audience these days. One look at the cocktail menu is enough to confirm the venue's focus on the top end of the market. Drinks like the Lychee Martini (Generous amounts of vodka, lychee and pineapple juice, shaken together with Cointreau, passionfruit liquor and set off with a skewer of whole lychees)... always popular, and a Temperance Favourite since they opened. The beer selection is similarly upmarket. While there are over 10 varieties available on tap, the bulk of them are imported or exotic. The bottled selection adds another dozen options to the list. Meanwhile, the wine list also holds up its end of the bargain. The venue has been renovated extensively in recent years and offers a modern take on the bar/lounge concept, although the outdoor tables are still a constant. In other words, polished wood features prominently in the decor, complimented with designer lighting, exposed iron girders and a selection of contemporary lounges. There are booth seats opposite the main bar and upstairs you'll find a second bar and spaces available for private functions. Both a tapas menu and proper sit-down options are available and the prices are in line with other venues in the South Yarra/Prahran area. The Temperance Hotel is a sleek addition to the South Yarra bar/club scene. DJs, live music and designer decor combine with a premium alcohol selection to create a Mecca for the modern lush.
