The Opium Den Hotel
there are no venues to display.
The Opium Den Hotel certainly has a festive atmosphere. There are cabaret shows, male revues, and DJs on offer throughout the week - a world of hedonistic fun to be found behind the classic corner pub facade. The decor might not be anything to write home about but it melds a traditional pub atmosphere with south east Asian influences. The result is a striking mix of colours and inspiration that envelops both the main room and the small beer garden.
That said, no one pays much attention to the furnishings - they're too busy with the stage shows. Wednesday nights host one of the city's longest running gay and lesbian nights, Fridays offer a selection of one-off events and there's always a mix of cabaret and live entertainment Saturday and Sunday night.
The drinks selection is as colourful as the locals with a mix of imported and local beers, cheap and cheerful wines and gaudy cocktails. If you've been looking for a venue to try some '80s throwback cocktails without the judgemental gaze of a bar tender, the Opium Den is the place. Oh, and if it all gets a bit too much they provide hotel accommodation upstairs.
