Hotel Metropolitan
there are no venues to display.
The heritage listed Hotel Metropolitan dates back to 1888 and was once part of the Melbourne Meat Market. Obviously they took greater pride in their meat products in the 19th Century because the building is lovely - a fine example of Victorian architecture. Inside, the decor and ambience is just as charming.
Hotel Metropolitan is well-known for its dining area and it's easy to see why. With its huge ceilings, large fireplace and linen draped tables the dining area maintains a real old-world charm. The front bar is much the same. It's all chesterfield couches, palms and paintings of a Melbourne long since forgotten. With large windows, polished wooden floors and those high ceilings it's also a remarkably light and airy bar.
The drinks menu focuses on wines (not surprising, given the venue's dual role as bar and restaurant) and there's plenty of reasonably priced bottles to choose from. All the usual beers are also available on tap and some well chosen imports can be found in the fridge. Add some friendly bar staff and you have one of North Melbourne's most inviting venues and a very pleasant surprise.
