Great Britain Hotel

While the furniture may look like it was procured from various deceased estates, and the bar top has been worn smooth by the elbows of many a weary drinker eons ago, the Great Britain Hotel in Richmond is as alive today as it ever was. While you may find the odd suit (and they do look rather odd at the Great Britain), the GB, as it's affectionately known, is frequented by a mixed crowd of artistics, musos, bohos and the occasional vagabond.

The front bar is where you'll find the more active revelers - basically, standing at the bar, eager for another pot of 100% Natural Piss - the GB's own tap brew. While the side and rear rooms seat those in need of a little more relaxing, accommodated on a number of retro chairs and couches. The open fire is also prime position should the weather be on the miserable side, which tends to happen regardless of the season (why does Melbourne ignore the tilt of the earth's axis, so?). But if the weather's fine, the beer garden will do you well for a spot of vitamin D, that's if you can find a seat.

The GB also allow you to BYO food should a hunger take you. Pizza is available across the road, which accompanies a pint of Piss quite nicely. Certainly a pub of the people, for the people.
