Der Raum
there are no venues to display.
Der Raum may look unassuming enough from the street, but this tiny bar has some serious credentials. Since first opening its doors in 2001 the place has won countless awards, among them the 2008 Gourmet Traveller bar of the year. Take a step inside and you'll find out why.
One look at the menu is all it takes to convince you Der Raum takes its drinks very seriously. All the juice is freshly squeezed, the mixers are premium-bottled products and there's a whole section explaining how their ice cubes come from a machine specially imported from Italy. Mind you, all this attention to detail doesn't come cheap and you'll be playing above the odds for your drinks. Still, it's worth it; the cocktail list is extensive and it's complimented by a very nice list of spirits. Speaking of spirits, the bottles are all suspended above the bar by hooks - you know, for easy access. That, or because it looks good.
The actual venue is small and dimly lit with a speakeasy vibe. There's ample space around the bar to pull up a stool and have the bar staff recommend you a drink. Alternatively, there are small pockets of ottomans and couches scattered around the edges. Either way, it's all very relaxed and refined with helpful bar staff eager to share their knowledge and ensure you come back.
