Cumulus describes itself as an "eating house and bar". That should give you some idea about its ambiance. While it's an upmarket venue aimed at a professional crowd, it doesn't take itself too seriously. The decor may be a mix of marble surfaces, polished wood, white walls and baroque tables, but it's simple and functional rather than snotty.

There's a variety of seating options and depending on whether you're after a cafe, restaurant or bar you can go with a long, shared table, a private corner or pull up a stool at the bar. Some offbeat floral arrangements add colour to the venue and between the bustling crowds and open kitchen there's warmth to the venue you might not expect with such a minimal design aesthetic.

The wine list at Cumulus is huge and takes in an assortment of local and international options. Bottles start at around $40 and go all the way up to $850 for the NV Krug Rose. Alternatively, you can go with a regular old beer or a cocktail. Either way, the menu offers both a la carte options and proper sit-down meals. With the kitchen open late throughout the week, Cumulus offers plenty of good reasons to drop in.
