Is there anything more Australian than a collection of vintage beer cans? The short answer is: no. No, there isn't. Coopers Inn understands this and has allocated one entire corner of the pub to their collection. 300 plus cans and bottles dating back to the 19th century are prominently on display, giving the pub a suitably casual vibe. As the management describe it, Coopers Inn is going for that "suburban pub in the city" atmosphere. If they mean the outer suburbs, than they've done a sterling job.

There's nothing particularly flashy about the Coopers Inn and that's kind of the point. This is a laidback venue for unpretentious management types and office workers; guys who sport Hale and Pace haircuts with matching facial hair. It's purpose built for people who will appreciate the VB beer coasters, daily pub specials and karaoke on Friday nights (after they've downed a few).

While Saturday nights are reserved for private functions, the rest of the week sees the venue offering punters 10 different beers on tap, a modest selection of wines and all the spirits you'd expect to find in a pub. The actual decor is simple and clean; with the exception of the beer can feature wall its pub greens, wooden tables and posters on the walls advertising the trivia night. If you've been to all the best bars in Melbourne and are sick of paying for elaborate cocktails and interesting décor, then this is the opposite end of the spectrum. A suburban pub in the centre of the city.
