Cherry Bar

Cherry Bar may look a little dodgy, but that's the whole point. Grungy and messy is good. Corporate is bad. If you're okay with that, then you're in for a rock and booze-fueled treat. Like most of Melbourne's better bars, the actual entrance is hidden down a back alley - the aptly named and world famous AC/DC Lane. Just follow the tight jeans and music if you're having trouble. Once inside you'll find the place suitably dark and dank. Set up in 1999 as one of Melbourne's first rock bars, it still holds that mantle a full decade later. There's a stage for live bands, a sticky dance floor and lots of crooked furniture to slump in with your JD and coke. If there's no band playing there's usually a DJ on hand playing a selection of old rock tunes, soul and punk. While there's a small selection of cocktails on offer, the majority of the alcohol being consumed is of the beer or spirits variety. It's nothing fancy, but it suits the clientele. If you're looking for a venue that rejects people in suits and considers Dinosaur Jr's Freakscene an unofficial anthem, then Cherry Bar is for you.
